My name is Amelia Spry, age 15, and I am a student at Horndean Technology College. The reason why I chose to do my placement with Rees Leisure is that I am a keen Sprinter. I do 100m and 200m where I run for City of Portsmouth Athletics Club and for Hampshire. I knew that Rees Leisure would be the best placement for me as I wanted to learn more about their running events and how a business is run. As my two passions are running and business, Rees Leisure was the best placement for me.
For the past two weeks, I have been honoured to do my work experience amongst wonderful people and in an exceptional business. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about various aspects of Rees Leisure including the Winchester Half Marathon, the Wessex Swim School and the Southampton Boat Show Regatta. I have learnt many skills that I can use for my future careers and hopefully for my own business one day. In my first week, I was introduced to the Winchester Half Marathon coming up in September where I learnt about the several types of software they use for social media, advertisement and marketing. I also contacted businesses to see if they wanted to supply snacks for our goody bags which helped me to develop my communication skills. I was also taught about their Southampton Boat Show Regatta coming up in September where I researched into the top two hundred and fifty businesses in the Solent. This task grew my research skills and helped my organisation skills. I also looked at the Wessex Swim School where I did some customer service activities over the phone which developed my confidence with talking to customers.
In my second week, I went along to a photo shoot for our Lead Local Charity for the Winchester Half Marathon, Naomi House & Jacksplace. It was lovely to meet inspirational children and brilliant staff who care for the children. Some of my favourite activities during my work experience were creating social media posts for different social networks and joining in with meeting and events which helped me develop a greater understanding of Rees Leisure’s businesses. I also enjoyed learning about finance as this paired well with my studies at school. Furthermore, I enjoyed doing marketing for the Wessex Swim School. I could not have asked for more enthusiastic employers and staff members who have made me feel welcomed and enhanced my experience of working. I am truly grateful to Rees Leisure for allowing me to do my work experience placement with them and for this fantastic opportunity which I will treasure.
