ReesLeisure, Sunsail and Royal Southampton Yacht Club host a launch meeting to encourage the people of Southampton out onto the water and build plans for the first Southampton Sailing Week. The partners were keen to see more engagement and inspire children to get involved with sailing.
2017 – First event and success
The first event was held in May 2017. A partnership between ReesLeisure, Sunsail, MDL marinas, and Royal Southampton Yacht Club. Over 5,000 people descended into the marinas, over 150 yachts came out for our first parade of sail and the Property Regatta was born. Working with ActiveNation and the great team at SWAC, over 200 children got a chance to spend some time on the water. Watch the 2017 highlights here:
2018 – Evolution and growth
The Event evolved and moved to September during TheYachtMarket.com Southampton Boat Show. Working with TheYachtMarket.com, MDL Marinas, RSYC, Sunsail, Wetwheels and Sail4Cancer. The racing expanded into 3 days of racing and 27 yachts and almost 300 sailors raced with the impressive back drop of the show. The Community Cup was formed and working with Southampton City Council, we offered a VIP experience day on the water to some of the most disadvantaged youths in the city, a real life changing experience.
2019 – Southampton Sailing Week returns
In 2019 we are looking forward to our biggest year to date, with over 60 yachts, 600 sailors and aiming to get more children than before out onto the water.
