Hello to all our budding TryTri Triathletes in training! We hope you are all well and feeling just as excited about our 2017 Triathlons as we are!
So, we assume your training has kicked off to a wonderful start, and we’re feeling good about our future Triathlon prospects. Let’s be honest though… for some of us we are beginning to lack motivation on certain days in our busy weeks and our goals are starting to feel harder to reach, becoming blurry in our visions.
This is all perfectly normal, remember ‘if it was easy than everyone would be doing it.’ This week we’re all about sticking to our personal goals helping us achieve our triathlon dreams! Thus, below are some tips and tricks for sticking to your TryTri Goals this year:
- Set significant and personal goals
You’ve probably already established your goals; however, it is important that they are exciting and important to you! Be specific and in turn you will be able to measure your success with greater ease and stay focused. Set mini milestones over the next few weeks to keep your goals interesting!
- Who do you want to be and how will you prove this?
Start with small steps and achieve great things.
- I want smash the Triathlon this year!
- To do this I want to become a faster swimmer
- I will train on this specific triathlon skill 4 times a week
- By week 4 I want to have achieved the time of (………)
Ta da- broken down, achieving goals isn’t so daunting!
- Find a training buddy/ support!
I’m sure we can all agree, when we feel supported in our efforts (whatever they may be) we are more likely to stick to our goals. So, go out, shout out your goals, tell your friends and family of your Triathlon greatness! Then there’s no going back… (mwahaha). Once our goals are announced out loud and partially expected of us to achieve, it gives us that extra push. While you’re at it, try find a training buddy who has a similar goal to yours, work together and motivate each other towards your goal achieving greatness!
- Mix things up! Add some variation
Have you noticed if you’ve ever done something repetitively, you often get bored and can’t be bothered to do it again? Therefore, to achieve our goals, we need to keep things exciting and challenging! Our bodies are very clever at adapting speedily to stimuli, which Is why we need to keep things fresh and ever changing. So, I dare you, switch up your training routine and add some variation into your triathlon life. Consequently, our fitness levels will increase at a quicker rate and training stays exciting!
- Relax that mind of yours
Everyday our minds are constantly hit with a whirlwind of thoughts. It’s so important to just switch off sometimes and let go, just be at one with our bodies as we train. With a quiet mind our bodies can work in harmony with it, creating a great difference in performance and a step closer to your goals. Try find at least 5 minutes a day to practise not letting any thoughts to enter your mind. This can also be done when training, for example, when running try focusing on how your body is moving and fully engage with the exercise. Work the body and rest the mind.
We hope these tips help you with sticking to goals this year, and remember it’s not just about the destination… it’s about the journey. Happy Training!
